Count the number of steps you take when preparing a meal and you have a simple, yet effective, way to judge the functionality of your kitchen. Too many steps most likely means your storage is not as practical as it could be.

Blum Australia, a specialist in kitchen storage systems, has developed a design criteria for ensuring the most effective kitchen layout. Dynamic Space is based on providing the right storage systems for each of the five main work zones in the kitchen.

Bryan Cairnduff, Blum Australia national marketing manager, says this in turn ensures items are stored precisely where they are needed, minimising movement within the kitchen.

"Using pull-outs and drawers in lower cabinets instead of shelves, selecting full extensions, and having fittings that function perfectly are all essential elements to consider at the planning stage," he says.

Crucial to the Dynamic Space concept are Blum's Tandembox and Blumotion systems, the Blum pantry cupboard, Aventos lift system, and the new Space Corner with Syncromotion.

Tandembox drawers with Blumotion have a silent, effortless running action, and are soft closing. The Tandembox system also provides full extensions so you can reach the very back of your cabinets, utilising all the available space.

Blum's new Aventos lifting system opens up additional design options for wall cabinets. Heavy fronts can be opened effortlessly Blumotion also ensures they are soft closing.

"The Space Corner with Syncromotion is the latest addition to the Blum collection," says Cairnduff. "This design provides access to corner units. Drawer fronts are hinged so they fold inwards when opened, which allows the drawers to fully extend."
