Homeowners are often wary of taking on a kitchen remodel, mostly because of the cost and time concerns.

Taking it step by step is a good way to manage such a project, and a good place to start is with a new sink. As these images show, switching from a self-rimming or undercounter model to an apron-front sink will give your kitchen a whole new look.

In the past this type of replacement usually involved substantial work on the cabinets, adding time and cost to the project, but with models like the Kohler Vault top-mount self-trimming sink, installation is a lot simpler.

The 7-inch apron allows the sink to fit on top of the existing cabinetry, while still providing spacious 9-inch-deep basins. Plus, this stainless steel sink blends well with stainless steel and chrome appliances.

Kohler also recommends a pull-out or pull-down faucet for improved functionality. Refreshing the existing cabinetry with a new coat of paint or finish, and swapping outdated hardware for more modern pull knobs are other suggestions. Fresh paint on the walls and a change of backsplash can also transform your kitchen.

To streamline the planning process, Kohler has launched a new Kitchen Planner tool. This allows you to virtually design your own kitchen sink space by choosing from a variety of Kohler sink and faucet styles and finishes, as well as Cambria and Cosentino countertops. You can match faucet finishes and sink colors to countertops to create your own custom design.

Kohler says homeowners who have reservations about installing a colored sink may find that they actually prefer a colored sink once they can see it in place on screen.
