Reflected glory
Glass benchtops give this minimalist kitchen, manufactured by Hansens, a spacious look
Designing a kitchen to make the most of a small space is a challenge, and ensuring it also has the wow factor adds to the motivation.
This kitchen was manufactured and installed by Hansens. The owners wanted it to have a point of difference as well as maximising the limited available space.
Glass benchtops, supported by a stainless steel frame, are part of the kitchen's minimalist aesthetic, while cantilevering the glass top over the central space substantially increases the available workspace.
To provide as much cupboard and storage space as possible, the design incorporates side-accessed chrome pull-out racks and generous extra storage space over the refrigerator, oven and pantry units. These are clustered together to take advantage of the only full-height wall in the kitchen space.
Grayson Hyde of Hansens says the innovative use of materials and space is enhanced by clean horizontal lines, achieved with the use of full-length aluminium channel handles.
A two-seater breakfast bar provides demarcation between the work area and adjoining living space, while the through-kitchen thoroughfare is unobstructed, meeting the needs of a busy household.
