Dynamic branding sells the Les Mills message
Lively, energetic and fun that's the message reinforced by the dynamic branding of the Les Mills gymnasium. Graphic design specialist Rocket worked closely with advertising agency Origami to create the graphics and special lighting effects.
Rocket managing director Ross Hall says the glazed exterior of the gym features a mix of one-way Focus film and 3M translucent film. These graphics allow vision through the windows at ground level.
"With the backlit ambient lighting, veranda signage and internal LED sky signage featuring aluminium and Opel acrylics, the graphics send a clear message we are here to do business'."
Hall says the research and development work required for the lighting features, and the design and fabrication of the graphics was a first for New Zealand.
"The giant LED pendants in the reception area, for example, each took 60 hours to construct. The lights are fabricated from aluminium and 3mm Opel acrylic and are fully controllable, with thousands of sequences available at the touch of a button."
Other special features of the interior include custom LED units that wrap around mirrors in the changing rooms, creating ever-changing bursts of colour and energy. The women's gym also has a hanging LED unit, as well as a full-gloss 3M film applied to the walls.
The RPM bike-spin room features a full digital wrap around the walls, with a matt over-laminate creating a dusk effect. This is supported by custom-designed and fabricated LED strip lighting that provides a warm orange glow to enhance the overall mood of the room.
"All the graphics were digitally printed on 3M films with matt over-laminates that allow the vibrancy of colour to pop out against the different wall colours," says Hall.
