Pushing the boundaries
Panoramic views are framed in this suspended living area with bold joinery from Aluminium Systems
Much of the style of a home is a result of the shape, size and design of its glazing. Large, open panes of glass are used to create a contemporary look, while smaller or mullioned windows give a home a more traditional flavour.
With an engineering background, Guy Shallard, the designer and co-owner of the contemporary home featured here, saw the possibilities of suspending the living area within a bold bridge element.
This created huge windows that made the most of the views, provided privacy for the living spaces and introduced a large amount of natural light.
Using Aluminium Systems-designed residential products, Ellison's Aluminium manufactured the custom-designed joinery for these large windows, as well as the remainder of the joinery for the house. The triangular, fixed window panes in the central bridge area are all double glazed and fitted into steel using aluminium channels and flashings.
The steel and aluminium joinery were powdercoated in one colour so all the components read as a single piece.
