Protection factor
Glare and heat gain from direct sunlight is minimised by using window furnishings from Helioscreen
An impressive view is of little aesthetic value if excessive bright sunlight dictates when you can enjoy it. Not only can the sun produce unwelcome glare and heat, but damage caused by UV rays is likely to discolour and prematurely age nearby furniture.
Apartment windows at the Royal Domain Tower are double-glazed and treated to reduce glare. They extend along the main living areas and bedrooms and are 2.4m-high in most places.
Protection from the sun is enhanced further by the use of interior window furnishings supplied by Helioscreen.
Marketing manager Jamie Shakespeare says the company was asked to specify and provide window treatments that offered apartment residents protection from the sun, but did not hinder the available views.
"The blinds needed to remain unobtrusive and yet still provide necessary heat reduction and light protection," Shakespeare says.
A combination of Topscreen and Duoscreen sunscreens was used inapartment living areas. Sunpro blockout screens were used in the bedrooms for their room-darkening qualities.
These fabric blinds were chosen because they met the specification requirements and also aesthetically complement most commercial and residential interiors, says Shakespeare.
"Helioscreen fabric reduces glare and heat internally by up to 60% while allowing residents to still enjoy expansive views outside."
For these apartments, light-coloured blinds were used to provide a neutral backdrop for owners' furnishings. All blinds are motorised and compatible with the Clipsal C-Bus home automation system that allows the blinds to be moved electronically, either by remote control or by using the C-Bus control panel. They can even be set to timers.
