Rapid advances in technology are influencing every aspect of our lives today they even have a bearing on the types of sunshades on offer.

The Hunter Douglas Commercial research and development team incorporates the latest technologies in all its new product lines, including two recently released Australian-made fabrics Baltic and Carnaby.

These fabrics are Sanitized® treated for optimal hygiene. Marketing manager Genevieve Marshall says the Sanitized treatment offers significant protection against dust mites, unpleasant odours, bacteria and fungi the most common allergens found in homes and offices, which are known to trigger allergic reactions, such as asthma.

"Healthy homes and offices are a key focus for most designers today, which makes the Baltic and Carnaby fabrics a logical interior design solution."

Marshall says the Baltic and Carnaby fabrics have also been treated with Duraguard® Fabric Protector.

"The fabrics retain both forms of in-built protection for years."

The Baltic fabric has a strong textural contrast in the yarn, which gives a modern twist on the classic linen glamour. The Carnaby collection has an understated, refined look, and is well suited to office spaces and modern buildings. Both fabrics are 100% polyester and are available in matching translucent and blockout fabrics, making them suitable for Dual Roller Blinds.

Another new product from Hunter Douglas Commercial is the Sunrain® Folding Arm Awning, which is part of the new Contemporary Series of Awnings.

"As the name suggests, the Sunrain® Folding Arm Awning is designed for both sun and rain protection," says Marshall. "It is specifically designed for Australia's weather conditions and incorporates the Wind Protect System to allow the awning to withstand higher wind conditions."

The awning has a double-pitch design that ensures rainwater drains down the smooth PVC fabric and escapes at the end of the front rail. A custom middle stringer provides extra support for the arms and gives the product strength in windy conditions. It also keeps the fabric taut to maintain waterproofing.

Marshall says all Hunter Douglas Commercial products reflect a commitment to the environment the company is a member of the Green Building Council of Australia.
