When selecting a bathroom designer, it is wise to find out whether they belong to a professional body.

As well as protecting the homeowner against poor workmanship, it also provides assurances that the designer of their choice will have good design skills and an up-to-date knowledge of new products.

The professional organisation for specialist kitchen and bathroom designers, the Kitchen & Bathroom Designers Institute of Australia (KBDI), provides its members with regular accreditation, training and professional development.

Bathroom designer and KBDI member Maureen van Roden, a Certified Bathroom Designer (AU), values the benefits of institute membership.

"Ongoing KBDI education opportunities allow members to enhance their skills and qualifications regularly. In turn, homeowners can be confident their designer is giving them the best possible, most up-to-date advice," she says.

Executive director Alex Milne says the KBDI's aim is to ensure members consistently produce high-quality designs and are exposed on a regular basis to product and industry developments.
