Handcrafted cabinets add character
With its close links to the formal and informal dining rooms and family living area, the kitchen is literally the heart of the home. Its pivotal role and position helped determine both its design and material palette.
Designed by Matthew Vosburg of Ebeniste, Las Vegas and built by Wm Ohs, Inc in Denver, the handcrafted cabinetry features two complementary door styles.
The perimeter cabinets feature Wm Ohs' Tuscany design, which incorporates a heavy applied molding that gives the cabinetry an Italian Renaissance look. The alder cabinets also have a Shadow glazing that highlights the distressed, rub-through crackle finish.
The island, refrigerator wall and butler's pantry feature Wm Ohs' Architectural Series door style, with a custom glazed stain on alder wood. This has a distressed, rub-through finish.
Rope pilasters, taupe granite countertops, and a custom crown molding and hood further enhance the kitchen's traditional European look.
Functionality has also been assured. The L-shaped layout provides a highly efficient work triangle, and cabinets incorporate custom-designed storage. For example, at the corner of the L there are quarter-round cabinets with pull-out drawers for spice and baking pan storage.
The designer specified a full complement of Viking appliances the majority integrated into the cabinetry.
Custom cabinetry is Wm Ohs' specialization. The company, which celebrated its 35th anniversary last year, handcrafts kitchens in traditional, transitional and soft contemporary styles.
