Mimicking fashion trends is one way to decorate your home but such designs will date a house more quickly than choosing something that's a little out of the ordinary.

A more personalized decor can provide lasting enjoyment, as many clients of Architectural Ceramics have discovered. The company, established by leading ceramic artist Elle Terry Leonard, produces site-specific commissions in clay for both residential and corporate clients.

"Relief murals are my speciality," Leonard says. "These are extensively researched and individually designed for each client. My other work includes handmade tile, glass and ceramic mosaics. In all cases, the artwork is integrated into the building structure, and is a permanent, durable material."

Leonard works closely with architects and designers, as well as homeowners. Her work, which covers more than 20 years, was recently published in a new book on ceramics in the environment.
