When contemplating your own dream house there are many aspects to consider. Will it reflect a contemporary presence? Will it meet the needs of your family dynamic? The brief to Graeme Alexander Homes for this project was for a large family home that would be sustainable into the future. The owners also wanted to maximise the breathtaking views from their property and make the most of the urban beachside environment. Their love of limestone was incorporated into the clean-lined design.
The home's wide, inviting entrance opens to a central access point from which visitors gain a glimpse of the sea. Major living zones are placed upstairs to fully exploit the view and to gain enough elevation to look out over the boat sheds on the sandy beach below.
To the north of the upper level is the master bedroom and ensuite, while to the east is the large kitchen and an open scullery. The main section of this floor is dedicated to the living and dining spaces that take in the panoramic outlook. The dining space flows out to a shaded deck area with daybed and privacy screens.
Four generously proportioned bedrooms are on the lower level, as are the open-plan living room-bar and home gym, which lead up to the raised pool. The pool wraps around the front of the home and is adjacent to a specially designed sunken, private and protected outdoor living zone. To further enhance this space, a gas fireplace and barbecue were also included. Different timbers were used throughout to add texture and bring a feeling of warmth.
The architectural exterior, almost resort-like entertaining spaces and solid construction add up to a design that will hold its value over time.
