Architects and designers are most pleased with their work when their design is enhanced, rather than compromised, by the products owners choose.
This kitchen, for example, is an integral part of the family living area in a new house. Architect Gerrad Hall says the kitchen opens to the outdoors but is also open to the rest of the house, and the visual link is reinforced by the materials.
Concertina oak ends to the island, concrete and stainless steel benchtops and flush white lacquered cabinets echo the styling and materials used throughout the house.
"It was important that the kitchen be in harmony with the rest of the interior," Hall says. "We didn't want it to stand out or look out of place we wanted a style that would stand the test of time."
The design is enhanced by a full complement of Fisher & Paykel appliances, including a 90cm Gas on Glass cooktop, 90cm built-in oven and an ActiveSmart¢ 519L refrigerator. Several of the appliances are integrated, including two DishDrawer¢ Tall dishwashers and the 90cm CoolDrawer¢.
"The latest generation of Fisher & Paykel appliances has improved integration," says Hall. "This brings a more sophisticated look to the kitchen, which is in keeping with our design ethos."
For many homeowners, the CoolDrawer is a new appliance, but one that offers great flexibility. It can be positioned wherever it is needed and can be programmed to chill food as required, be that a freezer or a cool store for drinks, fruit or vegetables.
"The CoolDrawer is an exciting new product from Fisher & Paykel," says Hall. "I expect to see more and more of these installed in kitchens."
Convenience also defines the 90cm built-in oven, which has a pyrolytic, self-clean function for easy maintenance. This oven sits well in modern kitchens, thanks to its clean lines, flat panelling, reflective black glass and stainless steel.
The 90cm Gas on Glass cooktop follows the same minimal lines and materials it has polished metal trim, a black reflective glass control panel and black ceramic glass cooking zone.
