Point of origin
Decisions about this kitchen's countertops, cabinetry and flooring established a design direction for the whole house

For many people, the kitchen is the heart of the home, and design choices for this room often affect the look of the rest of the house. It is hardly surprising, then, that many home designers suggest their clients start here first.
Designer Theresa Anderson encouraged the owners of this rural home to choose key elements of the kitchen before going further. Their choices included stone countertops, maple cabinetry and travertine tile floors, which were then continued throughout the house.
The owners wanted to use an engineered quartz from LG Surfaces, LG Viatera, for the kitchen countertops and island. The same quartz aggregate was then specified for all the hard surfaces in the house, including the vanity tops and tub in the master bathroom.
"The quartz has the look and feel of natural stone, and can be finished to a high level," says Anderson. "The double edging on the countertop, for example, is the sort of ornate detail that you'd expect to find in a traditional kitchen.
"I also like the fact that the color of the stone stays consistent. Even though LG Viatera is made from natural quartz crystals, the fabrication process means that it is not susceptible to large variations in color or pattern. I can order a color from a sample, and know that the finished surfaces will match."
LG Viatera is a durable material, comprising 93% natural quartz blended with polymer resins and colorfast pigments. It does not need topical sealing, which minimizes maintenance. The engineered quartz is designed by LG Surfaces, and specified by architects and designers for residential and commercial applications.
