How do you make a house stand out from all the others in the neighbourhood? A tried and proven way is to introduce a special feature.
The owners of this dated '60s house, which was originally designed with a Spanish hacienda theme, chose to add stone accents.
With just a few minor design changes, removal of the arches, and the addition of Stutex Stone manufactured schist on columns and feature walls, the house was transformed without a huge monetary outlay.
The owners say they were inspired by their travels in the Otago region, and consequently specified Cerastone LS77. This stone blends the colours of Central Otago schist.
Stutex Stone director Lorraine Goudie says the manufactured stone profiles replicate New Zealand's regional stone, and feature intricate surface textures that are hard to distinguish from natural stone.
"The veneers achieve a natural stone appearance without the usual associated cost, which makes them ideal for cladding as well as landscaping," she says.
"And because Stutex Stone designs are just one-third the weight of natural stone, they can be installed over standard foundations without the need for additional structural bracing. The light weight also means installation is fast, efficient and cost effective."
The stone is not limited to exterior use it is equally well suited to interior feature walls and fireplace surrounds.
"Using the stone indoors can provide visual continuity and further enhance the value of a property," says Goudie.
