Personal touch

Just as we all have differing tastes in color, art and fashion, our requirements in our kitchen vary from person to person. However, one that remains constant is the need to effectively combine aesthetics with functionality.

In order to meet the requirements of each client who enters its showrooms, Atlanta Kitchen & Bath takes a personal approach to design, says designer Lara Timms Abercrombie.

"Initially, we hold a meet-and-greet at our showrooms to get an idea of the style of kitchen required. We then measure the site in the home, and have an informal brainstorming session. We pay particular attention to the way the client operates in the home as well as to their personality."

The three kitchens on these pages are representative of a traditional scope of design often practised by Atlanta Kitchen & Bath. The transitional kitchen, above left, was created for a family who enjoys a variety of cooking styles, so there is room to accommodate many appliances, such as a Wolf steamer. Glass-front Cabico cabinets provide space for the display of glassware.

A checkerboard tile mosaic alludes to a French country design in the top kitchen. A combination of Debut and Legacy cabinetry creates this eclectic and comfortable look.

"For a home cook, the blue kitchen has a multi-level island, with a marble countertop for rolling out dough," says Abercrombie.
