Architectural innovation is what makes one home stand out from the rest. For this project, traditional building techniques were reversed to create a house with a distinctive point of difference.

The Edge, designed and constructed by Rawson Homes, features a cantilevered, cube-like top floor and contemporary eyebrow window treatments that set the house apart.

Rawson Homes marketing manager Alyssa Rawson says that for most houses, the lower level provides the wow factor.

"This design turns that idea on its ear," she says. "The facade and the flat roof with a parapet on all sides give the house a contemporary, boxy look that is very different to traditional eaves."

But it is not just the architecture that is turning heads. Rawson says the new products and materials used in the house made the innovation possible.

"We have used new products from Sycon¢, including Stria¢ cladding, which is made from a heavy-duty, lightweight, advanced cement composite," Rawson says. "This wide board, which we used vertically, has a classical appeal, but is quick and easy to install. It is also highly durable and provides plenty of design flexibility."

Rawson says The Edge design was created for the changing market.

"Building sites are generally much smaller than in the past. This design is well suited to narrow and smaller lots."

However, at 392m², the house itself is large, and designed for modern lifestyles. A spacious, open-plan living area opens out through bifolding doors to a paved terrace beneath a large overhang.

"We have incorporated a lot of features that ensure the interior of this house is just as dramatic as the exterior," says Rawson. "From the sculptural steel staircase to the central, tiered kitchen island and high-end cabinetry, every detail has been designed to reflect our commitment to luxury."

The Edge is from the new Rebuild with Rawson range of designs from Rawson Homes. As well as offering a variety of architectural styles, the plans allow plenty of design flexibility. And like all the company's projects, The Edge includes many sustainable design initiatives.

Rawson Homes, established 35 years ago, offers a fixed price contract and realistic completion times.
