Choosing materials that add a strong design element to your home doesn't mean you need to compromise on more practical aspects.

Eurobrik glass blocks are not only designed to enhance the aesthetics of your home, but also to provide plenty of natural light, privacy and insulation.

The house shown on these pages, designed by architect Nicholas Stevens, features Sahara Clearview glass blocks. Eurobrik managing director Gary Walden says the glass blocks insulate the home like double glazing and do away with the need for curtains.

"The thickness of the glass blocks results in a 52% reduction in heat loss, when compared to standard glass," says Walden. "This means there is no condensation to deal with in winter and, for the owners of this home, no cold sensation as they walk up the stairs in winter."

Walden says noise reduction and privacy other benefits of glass blocks are particularly relevant for this home, which is just two metres from the road.

Eurobrik glass blocks come in a variety of patterns, sizes and colours, with options ranging from clear to opaque. The blocks, which can be used for straight or curved walls, have a five-year guarantee.
