Out of the past
Introduce a sense of history and strength to your renovation with recycled timber from Ironwood Australia
In a world where the shock of the new has become rather watered down, the rich, enduring qualities of wide timber floors are hard to ignore. When that timber has an interesting architectural past, the ambience is even greater.
Ironwood Australia sources and processes recycled hardwood timbers and floors from historic buildings throughout Sydney, says managing director Keith Mackenzie.
"The cream hardwood floor shown here was created from the good bones of a 1930s timber warehouse," says Mackenzie.
The warehouse was one of the last of its kind built in Sydney. It owed its timber construction to the fact that steel at the time was being channelled into the war effort.
"Cut from broad warehouse beams, this recycled timber floor exhibits a strength of character that has been chiselled over time," says Mackenzie. "Not only can homeowners achieve a strong impact with recycled wood, they are also acting responsibly in terms of the world's finite resources an issue that has grown in importance over recent years."
Ironwood sells new and recycled wideboard flooring, together with recycled beams, posts and dressed timbers.
