Some kitchens incorporate numerous features of special interest, and this is one of them. But the real piéce de resistance is a 5m-long island, which runs parallel to the rear cabinets.

Kim Duffin, the designer in charge of the house renovation, specified Starfire glass doors and drawers for the island and splashbacks, backpainted in Resene Wanaka.

The drama created by the island is perhaps not surprising Resene describes the colour as a dark mineral blue, intrepid and cool, with a huge personality.

The blue makes a bold contrast to the natural brushbox timber floors, posts and ceilings. It is also a complementary colour for the Caesarstone Raven and brushed stainless steel benchtops. Other cabinetry features brushed silver laminate.

Resene Delta, a warm, ochre-tinged grey, features on the walls. Resene marketing manager Karen Warman recommends using Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen Kitchen & Bath on kitchen broadwalls. This waterborne, low-odour, Environmental Choice-approved paint provides a durable, washable finish.
