Opposites attract
Contrasting cladding materials add an individual touch to this new home
Architectural features are sometimes best highlighted by the use of contrasting materials particularly if both smooth and textured surfaces are incorporated.
Dennis and Donna Thomas, the owners of this house, combined the smooth finish of Palliside Traditional weatherboards with baby Zincalume and textured plaster.
"We wanted the materials to be a key feature of the house," says Dennis Thomas. "Consequently, we looked at a lot of show homes and visited homeshows to see what options were available. The clean profile and low-maintenance properties of Palliside cladding appealed."
Thomas says they were also influenced by the concerns regarding leaky buildings.
"We wanted a cladding that would be watertight. Palliside's 25-year manufacturer's warranty provided that assurance."
Palliside is a solid weatherboard with a foamed cellular core and a UV-resistanttop coat, which is impervious to denting and chipping. Incorporated into the design is an anti-capillary channel, which prevents moisture getting behind the boards.
As well as the Traditional bevel-backed profile, there are Rusticated boards, available in a smooth or Woodgrain finish.
