Open to view Vantage joinery from Able Aluminium

When you have a pine-tree studded clifftop site with a great sea view it makes sense to build a pavilion-style house that opens right up to the outdoors, just like the flaps of a tent can be peeled back.

This house, owned by Peter Shepherd of Topcoat Specialist Coatings, was designed to do precisely this. The custom APL Vantage joinery, from Able Aluminium, includes external and internal corner openings. Large sliders roll back to open up the corners there are no posts to obstruct the opening or the view.

The more exposed external corner of the master bedroom features joinery from Vantage's Metro Series, while the internal corner that opens to a covered patio incorporates joinery from the Architectural Series. All the doors and windows are in 20 micron Frosted Natural anodised aluminium, which is designed for use in areas prone to sea spray.

On the side of the house exposed to the sea, all the doors and windows are from the Metro Series, so they have a flat, flush finish. The joinery on this side also includes narrow aluminium louvres that are 400mm wide and 150mm deep. Joinery from the Residential Series features on the front and side of the house.

All the joinery features stainless steel hardware from the Icon range. This hardware is suitable for use in coastal locations. Doors and windows are all double glazed, with 6mm clear glass and argon gas.

Effortless functionality is assured. Doors and windows are easy to open and close, thanks to innovations such as the Vantage bottom roller system, which carries the weight of the door on the sill, rather than the top of the frame.
