A lakeside house, whether it's designed for living or holidaying, has to have good indoor-outdoor flow and living spaces, views from every room and space to keep a boat.

The latest David Reid Homes show home, in Wanaka's Peninsula Bay subdivision, was designed to capture and highlight views of the lake.

Managing director Richard Fairbairn says indoor-outdoor flow was a priority, so the home opens up onto terraces through sliding doors and windows along the front of the home.

Finished in James Hardie Linea and Titan Board, the house is built to withstand the climate. Simple planting and landscaping provides an easy-care garden in keeping with local surroundings.

Clean lines and simple classic ideas are features of the architecture and interior design of the house. Polished Italian tiles and high ceilings add a feeling of spaciousness, and earthy tones, complemented by white trim and fittings, reflect the peaceful exterior environment.

To make family life and entertaining easy, the home has two large living areas with a state-of-the-art entertainment system. Four spacious bedrooms feature designer wardrobe systems, and the main bedroom has an ensuite with a spa bath and walk-in shower. The house also has three other bathrooms, one for the exclusive use of guests.

For boaties, the design includes a generous boat parking area with facilities to wash the boat down after a day's fishing on the lake.

Right House's role was to create a comfortable, low-energy, high-performing home. The company's customised energy solution took into account the placement of the home on the site, double-glazing, full insulation, sound-proofing and a solar hot water system. Living areas are heated by an Escea gas fire, which is supplemented by gas radiators, heat pumps and heated tile floors.
