On the beach

Living beside the beach is likely to mean you enjoy a fairly casual lifestyle, with family and friends dropping in for a quick cup of coffee and catch-up, so the kitchen needs to cater for this.

Harbourcity Developments & Construction wanted the kitchen in this home to be user-friendly and to flow smoothly into the family living areas.

To do this, designer Cherie Stevenson from Klassic Kitchens opened up the area allocated for the kitchen and created a peninsula breakfast bar, which makes an easy connection with the open-plan living spaces.

The designer also chose colours and materials to create a visual link between the two areas. Kitchen cabinetry is lacquered to colour-match the rest of the house, and granite was chosen for the island and perimeter benchtops.

For additional storage and to make it easy to keep the space clean and tidy, a handy walk-in scullery is accessed through sliding glass doors at the end of the kitchen. The dishwasher and microwave are built into the island.
