Good communication is critical for any public transport system. Passengers need to be kept informed of train movements, and centralised control is essential for the overall safety and smooth running of the network.

Armitage Systems provided the eyes and ears for the network operations team running Auckland's rail system. CCTV provides security on station platforms and public address systems allow for communication between centralised control rooms and the public, while safety help points on platforms offer intercommunication between the public and the control room. To achieve this, Armitage designed systems to meet the detailed specifications of Auckland Transport and its consultants. Additionally, systems supplied had to integrate into existing transport networks and system management infrastructure, and support future expansion.

Its involvement on the project to upgrade the ITS technology is an example of the type of work Armitage undertakes for its infrastructural clients. These include councils and government departments, for whom it provides intelligent transport solutions for roading and transportation, as well as CCTV, access control systems, building management systems and life safety fire protection.

Another aspect of the company's business is its work with industrial and commercial clients to provide CCTV, access control and electronic security. The design and installation of fire protection systems, sprinklers, electronic fire alarms and extinguishers is another large component of the company's service. Armitage also offers a planned preventative maintenance service and facilitates building certification for clients. This includes IQP compliance and BWOF certification.
