When good natural light is required, glass is the best solution. Glass Projects provided glass for the New Lynn Railway Station that would also resist all the dynamic design loads of this large infrastructural project
To allow as much natural light as possible into and around the terminal building, surrounding spaces and into the lower platform areas, the designers specified the extensive use of glass.
To achieve this, Glass Projects designed, supplied and installed frameless glass facades, balustrades and canopy glazing systems to create a safe environment for rail patrons at New Lynn and Newmarket Railway Stations. One of the challenges for Glass Projects was to provide products that would resist all dynamic design loads and provide protection and safety for all uses of the interchange buildings and surrounding areas.
All the glass barriers had to be designed to provide protection from the electrified rail system, and articulated glass fittings accommodate and transfer dynamic movements in the frameless glass facade and canopy systems.
Glass Projects supplied toughened laminated glass to ensure maximum strength and the ability to remain intact in the event of mechanical breakage, ensuring public safety is maintained at all times. The company designed glass canopies and skylights with a ceramic, fritted, black dot matrix pattern to opacify direct sunlight and provide shade for people waiting under bus canopies and in the interchange areas.
Glass Projects, New Zealand's exclusive distributor of Nupress Facade Systems, provided fully engineered and supported design solutions for all connections between glass and primary and secondary structural elements.
