On a fast track

Part of the design intent for the Newmarket and New Lynn Railway Stations was to provide a spacious, light, airy, secure and comfortable amenity for passengers.

To achieve this, glass was used extensively throughout the stations. As a specialist in the innovative design and application of adhesive film onto glass surfaces, Frosted Glass By Design was an integral member of the project team.

Frosted Glass By Design applied 3M digitally printed films to various areas of the Newmarket and New Lynn stations to enhance their surroundings. The company worked with Opus Architects to create their vision of a "Yesteryear Newmarket Street Map" to a glass wall that can be admired by the public, while at the same time providing privacy for the station's staffroom. At New Lynn station, Maori, Pacific, European, and Asian themes were created in various areas.

To keep the stations clean and in good order, Frosted Glass By Design applied 3M's optically clear SH4 anti-graffiti film to 95% of the glass.

Company director Sean Williams says that it was no easy task to apply the optically clear anti-graffiti film to glass on an active construction site while still maintaining a high level of application so this in itself was a particularly challenging aspect of the project.

Adhesive films from Frosted Glass By Design can be used to create eye-catching walls in entrances and reception areas, to add visual ambience to internal spaces or to create private areas. The films are available in a range of colours, transparencies, frosted and printable finishes. Solar film gives protection from UV rays, heat and glare and improves energy management. The company also applies 3M safety film in various descriptions to provide security and help prevent injury.
