Relaxed natural is the design tone for the Lake Terrace apartments with bamboo floors and internal doors adding a distinctive look, says Mark Twomey of Linell Imports.

"The interior designer, Jennie Dunlop, specified bamboo for the open-plan living spaces in the apartments," says Twomey. "It's a fresh look that suits a natural aesthetic, while its grain and colour give it a distinctive character."

Bamboo is a durable material that is up to twice as hard as traditional hardwoods. The other stand-out feature of bamboo, says Twomey, is its environmentally friendly credentials.

"Bamboo is a sustainable natural material: a mature bamboo plant will regenerate within five years," he says. "That makes it an ideal eco-friendly alternative to timber flooring."

Bamboo was also supplied for the interior doors in each apartment Linell Imports is the only company currently importing bamboo doors into New Zealand.

"Each door is solid bamboo and 40mm thick, which shows off a stunning vertical grain."
