While we might have a very definite idea of the style of kitchen we want, it is always advantageous to bring in an expert.

The owners of this kitchen knew that they wanted a French country design that would utilize mainly freestanding cabinetry. They invited Amir Ilin of Ke¼che+Cucina to create their vision, in conjunction with interior designer Barbara Ostrom.

Ilin says the biggest design challenge was working within the home's shape, which is similar to a boomerang with two wings meeting in the kitchen. This area is used for meals and family gatherings, as well as large dinner parties.

To ensure the 1200ft2 space was both functional and cosy, three different shaped islands, in three different finishes, were strategically placed around the kitchen.
