The interior fitout and some individual counters are by Allen and Chapman
With the internal shell of the merged buildings complete, an experienced shop fitter was required to fit out and fine tune interiors in a shop that features one of the largest cosmetics displays in the country.
Allen and Chapman was asked to complete the Smith & Caughey's interiors, partly due to the shop fitter's expertise in the retail beauty industry, says director Jeff Chapman.
"We fitted out the entire shop from floor to ceiling of the reinvented premises and most individual galleries," he says. "Floors were finished in white tile but each cosmetic area had its own demarcating floor areas."
Most of the interior was finished in white to encourage a sense of harmony of the merged spaces and to put the retail products in the best possible light."
Given the scope and range of the galleries, a real sense of atmosphere was created. For example, the MAC counter has a barrisol a translucent, latex-type material stretched over a frame in a zig-zag shape to create an overhead glowing feature.
"Another important consideration for us was the trade-through fit-out in the existing shop," says Chapman. "We boarded off sections and completed these one at a time. However, aspects such as floors and ceilings were completed outside of trading hours."
With over 20 years' experience in the fit-out industry, Allen and Chapman has the skill set to handle a range of modest to high-end projects, Chapman says.
