Natural retreat

Rustic decor never goes out of fashion and offers a relaxing, welcoming ambience, especially in Northern Minnesota. However, a classic look can go hand in hand with modern functionality, making a rural retreat even more relaxing to spend time in.

This was the approach taken by The Hearth Room when creating the interiors for this lakeside getaway. The Hearth Room's kitchen designer Paula Dehning explains some of the touches that made this rustic haven into a cozy home.

"Our interior design team worked side-by-side with the owners and builders to create an authentic log-cabin style," she says. "The Hearth Room designers combined a varied use of materials from tile, brick, granite and stucco to reclaimed timbers and raw-cut native wood with an emphasis on day-to-day functionality.

"The kitchen is a good example we mixed polished granite countertops with classic-look faucetry, the latter with modern waterflow ergonomics built in," she says. "Medallion's Yukon hickory cabinetry also has modern functionality built in, such as deep drawers, customized pull-out spice racks and roll-out shelves in the base cabinets.

"From its rustic oak floors to the bathroom's whirlpool tub, the design balances old world charm with comfort and convenience throughout."

The Hearth Room works with other designers, as well as the public, on both residential and commercial projects. The company has its own design team, including two specializing in kitchen projects, and its own experienced installation team.
