Natural energy
Geothermal, solar, wind and biomass energies will be investigated in the new Clean Energy Centre at Taupo
New technologies especially in the realm of environmental sustainability come onto the market on an almost daily basis. As the need for keeping abreast of these technologies increases, having somewhere to showcase them is becoming more important.
This need is about to be satisfied in New Zealand with the NZ Clean Energy Centre, which is expected to break ground prior to Christmas, says CEO Rob McEwen.
"What we're hearing from the marketplace is that this is an idea whose time has come," says McEwen. "Technology providers in the fields of biomass, geothermal, wind and solar energy have shown a strong interest in demonstrating their products in a collaborative environment."
Located in Taupo, the 800m² facility will have a focus that is partly educational able to host up to 80 people in a theatre setting and partly business. In keeping with its intended use, the building will incorporate a number of clean energy solutions for its own needs, says McEwen.
"We're aiming to utilise as many different solutions as possible to deliver energy as heat and electricity to the building, and to incorporate metering so that visitors can see where the energy is coming from."
