The Club required a high level of project management, carried out by Rilean Construction
Large developments require a high level of management, right from an early stage. Rilean Construction (South Island) Ltd worked closely with the developer and their design team in the early phases of the project, which led to the company's successful negotiation of a main contract.
The Club was built on a steeply sloping site with difficult access, which presented many challenges during construction. Steve McLean from Rilean Construction says that among the initial challenges was the need for rock breaking excavation equipment and rock bolts to stabilise the banks and create level terraces ready for building.
"By looking at the site and establishing crane lift and reach options, we could determine factors such as the maximum weight of pre-cast concrete components. This methodological input was important to the engineers and designers."
Site deliveries were very difficult, and two-way neighbour access had to be maintained along the narrow access lane at all times.
