There is a fine balance between taking advantage of plenty of natural light flowing through office windows, and minimising the harmful effects of UV rays. Furnishings and carpet can become sun damaged and faded, and the effects of glare from direct sunlight on computer screens is well documented.

One company that has made a consistent difference in homes and offices throughout the country over many years is New Zealand Window Shades. The company specialises in supplying and installing a wide variety of blinds, including sunscreens and roller shades, and has plenty of experience in the commercial sector.

Architects Warren and Mahoney specified a range of solar control products throughout the offices of Chapman Tripp and KPMG, including the colour and fabric, says New Zealand Window Shades commercial manager Kim Jarman.

"Our robust and versatile sunscreens are ideal for use in office buildings such as the Maritime Towers, where they control light without obscuring the wonderful views over the harbour."

Luxaflex Novascreen sunscreens in Pearl Bronze were supplied to all windows throughout KPMG's premises, while additional blockout blinds in Extraflocke White were used over the sunscreens in meeting rooms.

Law firm Chapman Tripp used Extraview sunscreens in Midnight Storm throughout the offices, and additional blockout blinds in Extraflocke White in the meeting rooms on the client floor.

With a choice of manual or motorised operation, Luxaflex sunscreens and blockout blinds utilise advanced technological fabrics to screen out harmful rays while enhancing aesthetics.
