Warm neutrals meet crisp whites in this remodelled kitchen featuring Corian and Melteca from The Laminex Group
Undertaking a renovation project thesedays invariably involves a new kitchen, which means you can also benefit from the latest technology. And it's not just appliances that have changed out of sight in the past few years cabinet and benchtop materials have also been transformed.
For this remodelled Christchurch kitchen, designer Sian Gillanders of SG Design specified a 25mm-thick Corian benchtop for the island.
"Corian has long been a favourite benchtop material," she says. "I love the way it can be shaped to meet different requirements. For this project, I chose a thin benchtop in Corian Antarctica, which enhances the light, spacious look of the kitchen. I also appreciate the fact that although the benchtop is just over 3m long, it has a seamless surface."
Gillanders says Corian's durability, ease of maintenance and extensive warranty are other reasons for her choice.
Melteca low-pressure laminate, another product from The Laminex Group, was specified for the cabinetry. The rear walls of the kitchen are in Melteca Mist, a warm neutral tone that complements the rest of the house interior. To create a distinctive point of difference, the island cabinetry is in Melteca Classic White.
Using Melteca Mist on the wall, rather than having an all-white kitchen, helps to soften the overall look, the designer says.
