Mike Greer Homes Marlborough and Durrant Design win the 2026 TIDA New Zealand Group Home Builder Bathroom of the Year

For this ensuite bathroom, the retired owners wanted the calm, refined feeling of a boutique coastal retreat without relying on obvious beach themes.

Rather than filling the space with decorative elements, the design embraces a philosophy of restraint, allowing carefully selected materials, sculptural forms and thoughtful layering to shape the environment.

The primary design decision centres on the Raku feature wall tiles, which subtly reflect the surrounding coastal landscape and beach views.

From there, softer sandy hues transition into the master bedroom, where custom cushions, bedding, textured throws and travertine stone bedside lamps connect the two spaces.

In the ensuite, rippled basins echo organic forms found throughout the home, reminiscent of moving ocean water.

These repeated curves introduce softness and rhythm, balancing the room's geometric lines while strengthening the overall design narrative.

The TIDA judges noted how this careful design editing delivered a sophisticated, contemporary interpretation of coastal living.
