When you have a long-term building project on the go, you want to be secure in the knowledge that your builder is in it with you for the long haul.

RW Bugbee & Associates worked on this penthouse for two years. Starting with just four bare walls, the company worked with interior designer KC Miller to create an extensive two-story residence.

The home includes a grand entrance foyer, living room, formal dining room, media room, and entertainers' kitchen.

Several artisans were brought in from other states to help complete the work.

RW Bugbee & Associates president Scot Bugbee says high-rise projects such as this are particularly challenging.

"It's like building a ship in a bottle because all building materials and furnishings must fit into the elevator."

He says the time and cost involved in high-rise work is often 40 to 100% more than ground-level building projects.

"Rubbish and jobsite clean-up, temporary sanitation, vapor control, storage of materials and protection of completed work are real challenges and expensive aspects to the build."

Bugbee is particularly proud of his company's contribution to the half-circle staircase in the foyer.

"Curved structural steel stringers had to be cut to fit in the service elevator, then welded together on site. The stainless steel handrail and cap were fitted without a seam. We also had to install the finished walls before the stone treads were in place. All of this was achieved with the greatest of care and attention to detail."

RW Bugbee & Associates specializes in building challenging, high-end residential homes that require effective problem-solving skills.

Meeting Miller's request for all moldings to be flush with the walls provided a chance for the company to exercise these skills, says Bugbee.
