Makeover magic
From top to toe, this 1980s brick house has been completely redesigned, replastered and reclad in schist blends from Stutex Stone
You love the location, the outlook and the space, and you don't want to trade up. So, how do you revamp a house that seems past its use-by date? The answer lies in good design and new materials.
For the owners of this country property, a whole new look was called for. In addition to a new interior, the roof was redesigned and the original brick plastered. However, the most dramatic visual change to the exterior was the addition of stone accents. Schist blends ES60, LS60, ES77 and LS77 from Stutex Stone's Cerastone range feature on columns and walls beside the main entrance.
Director Lorraine Goudie says Stutex Stone's manufactured stone profiles have been designed to replicate New Zealand's regional stone, and feature intricate surface textures that are hard to distinguish from natural stone.
"Cerastone provides a natural stone appearance without the usual associated cost," she says. "This makes it a cost-effective option for both cladding and landscaping. With the grey and brown colour tones, the schist blend shown here is particularly well suited to this home's country setting."
Lorraine Goudie says because Stutex Stone veneers are one third the weight of natural stone, they can be installed over standard foundations without the need for additional structural bracing. The light weight also means installation is fast and efficient, providing further cost savings.
Stutex Stone veneers are available in a wide variety of colourings and stone types, such as Otago schist, riverstone and edgestone. Accessories include capstones, sills, trim stones and 350mm x 300mm hearth stones.
Stutex Stone has distributors nationwide. For more details, contact Stutex Stone, 8/6 Westgate Dr, Westgate, Auckland, freephone 0800 788 839, or (09) 832 8300. Email: stutexstone@xtra.co.nz. Website: www.stutexstone.co.nz.
