The kitchen of this early 1900s country estate was seriously in need of a refit. While the historic home could not be structurally altered, the stylistic leftovers of previous refurbishments had resulted in a jumbled look that the owners wanted to change to a more cohesive design. The design and manufacture of the new kitchen was undertaken by Christopher Peacock Cabinetry. A senior member of the company's design team, Laura Dylla O'Brien, says the traditional design takes the kitchen back to a style appropriate to the architecture of the house."This is the sort of clean, traditional English cabinetry we are known for. We take care to ensure our designs fit the lifestyle of the client and the style of the home," she says. "Walk through this kitchen in ten years' time and it will not have dated. It will look as though it has always been there." A view of some cabinetry by Christopher Peacock Cabinetry. Contemporary quirks such as the curved pot rack catch the eye. The idea, says O'Brien, is to take the traditional look and make it fresh. The company hand builds all of its cabinetry using skilled craftsmen and traditional furniture-making methods. Unlike pre-finished cabinetry, Christopher Peacock cabinetry is installed primed. The final, finishing coats of paint are professionally applied on site, with brush in hand."Custom-blended colors, subtle washes and special stains are all possible. There are only a handful of cabinet-making companies that provide this level of workmanship," says O'Brien. A view of some cabinetry by Christopher Peacock Cabinetry.
