The revitalisation of our cities is not only changing the way they look, but also the way we live. Circle on Cavill, the latest development by Sunland Group, is a prime example of the type of mixed-use developments that are bringing the soul back to the city.
Sunland Group architects say the project was designed to re-create the heart of Surfers Paradise, by locating a 50m-diameter circular piazza between two high-rise apartment towers in the centre of the development. Tower one, on Cavill Avenue, comprises 49 levels, including 271 apartments. Tower two, which fronts Surfers Paradise Boulevard, has 365 extra-large apartments over 69 levels. The design also incorporates a retail podium.
"A key objective in the design was to provide a strong visual and pedestrian link from the Nerang River through to Surfers Paradise Boulevard," they say. "To support this connection to Circle on Cavill, we have re-designed and landscaped Appel Park on the riverfront."
The two towers are set well back to maximise the open space available to the public. A landscaped recreational space on top of the retail podium at Level 3 serves the 636 residential apartments.
"The form highlights urban architecture, with tinted glass walls, textured pre-cast panels, angular framing and awnings providing a lively facade," say the architects. "The central pedestrian streets are 20m wide to further enhance a sense of openness."
