LOOKING GOOD

A project is only completed when all the last finishing details are completed and signed off, and with a huge project such as the Britomart East complex, the painting contractor certainly carries a significant part of this responsibility.

For the Britomart East complex, Target Painters won the contract to do all the painting on the building. The project took the company almost two years to complete, and up to 40 painters were working on the site at any one time. For the exterior walls of the building, Wattyl's Granosite product, a textured, sand-based paint, was specified. To ensure the best quality finish with a specified product that had to be both painted and sprayed to achieve the desired effect, work had to be carried out when the temperature and wind conditions were right.

Target Painters was also commissioned to paint the majority of the interior of the buildings, including the Westpac fit-out, the atrium, stairwell and lobby. Because of the height of the link stairs in places up to eight storeys high all the painting was done from scaffolding. With more than 20 years in the painting and wallpaper contracting business, Target Painters has a large team of skilled workers who can be deployed on both large and small jobs. While most of the company's work involves painting the interiors and exteriors of new buildings, it also takes on refurbishment projects.
