Lifts that require no machine room can offer space-saving, cost and aesthetic advantages to building developers.

Australand chose Eastern Elevators' Machine Room-Less Lifts for Glebe Harbour. The lifts feature a patented gearless permanent magnet motor, which is integrated into the guiding system at the top of the lift shaft. This eliminates the need for a machine room, says managing director Warren Watt.

"Not having a machine room at the top of the shaft means there is no effect on the shape of your roof line. This can result in an increase in the number of top floor units, and also means any motor noise is kept away from living areas."
