Whether or not a fire is lit, it creates an atmosphere of warmth and cosiness in a room. An additional element of luxury is added when the fireplace is made from a rich, natural material such as granite or marble.

Soapstone fireplaces from Finstone are available in traditional and contemporary styles. The soapstone can be clad in materials such as marble or granite to ensure the fireplace creates a special feature in the room.

The soapstone produces a radiant heat that warms the body in the same way as the sun does. Managing director of Finstone Adrian Kruesi says the heat from a soapstone fireplace is very comfortable, because it is neither too hot nor too dry.

"Soapstone fireplaces burn cleanly and can heat a well-insulated room for 12 to 24 hours after burning wood for just two to three hours," he says.

The fireplaces can also have an optional electrical element built into them, which heats the soapstone, and means you needn't burn wood to warm the house.
