This custom-made furniture is resistant to the knocks of childhood, and designed to inspire creative play in junior bedrooms
Every child is different and each has individual tastes in colours, toys, hobbies and games. Having a bright, customised bedroom can help a child to express their personality.
Nandar Thwin developed furniture company Twinkle Star with the aim of creating custom children's furniture that would prompt imaginative play.
"I was looking for strong, sturdy furniture that fit my requirements. With a background in interior design, I decided to produce my own," she says.
The Twinkle Star range includes tables, chairs, beds, toy boxes, bookshelves, chests of drawers and wall decorations, all designed and made in New Zealand.
"I have over 100 shapes that can be cut into size for wall decorations. These include letters for names, or safari animals for a themed bedroom," says Thwin.
One design that is individual to Twinkle Star is the changing chest. Thwin says she found changing tables to be expensive items that are only necessary for a short time. The Twinkle Star changing chest is a chest of drawers that doubles as a changing table, meaning it still has a use after the child has grown out of nappies.
As a mother, Thwin is aware of child safety. Non-toxic paint is used in the creation of Twinkle Star designs. Toy boxes are installed with slow release closing mechanisms, to prevent jammed fingers.
