Lifestyle choice
A light, spacious interior and an easy indoor-outdoor flow define this David Reid Homes show home

New home design trends don't change overnight, but they do evolve over time to better suit the needs of homeowners.
This new Orewa show home by David Reid Homes epitomises the trend towards simple, light-filled interiors where the focus is firmly on lifestyle.
Martin Wiltshire of David Reid Homes North Shore says the house is all about light and space. The average ceiling height in the living areas is 3m, and the design is characterised by extra-wide openings to the outdoors.

"One entire corner of the house can be opened up to a sheltered deck that is effectively an outdoor pavilion," Wiltshire says. "This becomes a natural extension of the living area."
The house is also defined by an open-plan layout, although the formal living room can be closed by large, painted aluminium cavity sliders. A key feature is a tiled feature wall with a gas fireplace.
"Energy efficiency was another key design driver," says Wiltshire. "This is a highly energy-efficient fire. The house also features solar hot water heating, double glazing in the living rooms, and is insulated in excess of the building code."
