Let the sun shine in
Introduce natural light and maintain privacy in your bathroom with a wall of glass blocks from Eurobrik
Natural light is important throughout your home, but it can be difficult to achieve in a bathroom. The need for privacy often means that you have to draw the curtains or close the blinds or shutters whenever it is in use.
Now it's possible to have both light and privacy with glass blocks from Eurobrik. The blocks are extremely opaque to provide maximum privacy, says manager Gary Walden. Even at night, with the bathroom lights on, they provide enough obscurity to be able to shower in front of the glass block windows.
"The glass blocks give a diffused natural light to the bathroom," he says. "They are strong enough to use as an internal wall and have thermal insulating properties, so even in winter, they don't feel cold."
Eurobrik glass blocks are available in a variety of patterns and designs. The Savona style, pictured above, has a bubbly, effervescent look that is especially suited to a bathroom.
Shown on the facing page is a bathroom designed by Waitakere Architects. The designer chose to use the Cross Ribbed style, with a pattern of vertical lines on one side and horizontal lines on the other. They create a grid-like effect with an Art Deco look. The blocks form a reinforced internal wall in the bathroom, with the vanity on one side and the shower secluded from view on the other.
Because the patterns are inside the blocks, the surface remains smooth and easy to clean. They are available in four privacy ratings from completely clear to completely obscure, and the 190mm x 190mm x 80mm blocks can be combined to produce a variety of looks.
