Ozone-friendly air conditioning systems installed at Sylvia Park
Even the air you breathe can be an environmentally friendly option. Sylvia Park is the first large-scale commercial project in New Zealand to incorporate packaged air conditioning units utilising the new ozone-friendly, chlorine-free refrigerant R410A.
The prototype packaged and split-system units were designed and built by Temperzone, a company that specialises in customised air conditioning solutions. Business manager Tony King says an existing range of units was re-designed to accommodate the new R410A refrigerant.
"As this refrigerant is still new to New Zealand and Australia, the Temperzone team had to test and re-test at every step to confirm the calculated design figures. The units had to meet the new Minimum Energy Performance Standard regulations, which are being introduced over the next two years. To do this, Temperzone built a new, more sophisticated, two-room test laboratory, while also building the prototype units."
King says the high fresh air requirements of the cinema complex necessitated extra customising for this special application. As R410A refrigerant componentry to do this is not yet available, the units were instead produced utilising R407C refrigerant, which is also ozone friendly.
The rooftop units feature powdercoated finishes in either Gull Grey (R410A) or Tampa Tan (R407C).
