Plumbing includes stormwater recycling
With sustainability a priority for any school, the need for water conservation influenced the plumbing requirements at Te Whanau o Tupuranga. John Ingleton of IPL Ltd, the company contracted to provide all the plumbing services, says a separate system allows stormwater to be recycled for toilet flushing.
IPL installed all the pipework and pumps, as well as the fixtures and fittings for bathrooms and kitchens. The company also undertook the gas fitting for the laboratories and gas water heating system.
Ingleton says robust products were specified for bathrooms and kitchens. The easy availability of spare parts also helped determine the choice of Methven tapware, Caroma basins and Caroma toilets with Dux cisterns.
"The biggest challenge for the project was meeting the budget. The original specifications needed to be revisited to provide a cost-effective solution."
IPL Ltd, established 21 years ago, specialises in commercial plumbing and gasfitting. The company has worked on many large new schools in recent years, including Alfriston College and Botany College.
