This system has been installed at Te Whanua o Tupuranga School. Custom-designed air conditioning systems that use ozone-friendly R410A refrigerant were specified for Te Whanau o Tupuranga school. The systems were provided by Breeze Air Conditioning, an HVAC design and installation engineering specialist.Director Dave Foley says the air conditioning systems needed to comply with the NZ Building Code as it applies to the provision of fresh air in learning spaces. They also needed to meet strict noise criteria in respect to both the indoor and outdoor units. Minimising running costs and providing for ease of maintenance were other considerations. All the air conditioning systems utilise reverse cycle heat pumps. The systems include packaged ducted-type units for the Whare Kai building and auditorium stage. These units are positioned externally and conditioned air is ducted via thermally lined ductwork. The teaching block, library, auditorium and music/art classrooms are equipped with split ducted systems. These comprise an indoor unit sited above the suspended ceiling. Conditioned air is supplied through ducting and ceiling and wall diffusers. The indoor unit is coupled via refrigeration pipework to an outdoor unit.Breeze Air Conditioning also designed split wall and ceiling mounted systems for the administration building. The food technology room incorporates an indirect high-efficiency gas-fired warm air unit. This unit has a secondary heat exchanger, which maximises the heat extraction from the gas. Image of custom designed air conditioning systems that use ozone friendly R410A refrigerant. Foley says the mechanical services have been left exposed in several places, so they can be used as a learning tool for the students. For more details, contact Breeze Air Conditioning, PO Box 302-861, North Harbour, Auckland 0751, phone 021 905 092.
