Learning Curve
All-in-one technology systems provider
Communications and security systems are key technologies for any new school and when both systems can be handled by one contractor there are distinct advantages. Data Pacific was contracted to design, supply and install the communications network, security system, MATV, PA system and classroom audiovisual equipment for Te Whanau o Tupuranga.
Data Pacific managing director Ian Woodley says this work is normally handled by two or three contractors. Having just one point of contact, rather than one for each service, streamlined the operation for the project managers.
Woodley says the communications and security systems were designed to meet Ministry of Education specifications. The communications technology provides for telephones and computers in all classrooms. In addition, MATV outlets are located throughout the school.
The audiovisual equipment includes an assisted learning system in each classroom. Speakers and amplifiers allow students with impaired hearing to pick up audio from the teacher. There are also plug-in facilities to allow MP3 players and iPods to be used as teaching aids.
Woodley says Data Pacific regularly works on new school projects, and has recently designed and installed communications, security and audiovisual systems at Albany Junior High School and Upper Harbour Primary School.
