When you are both a developer and builder, it makes good business sense to construct an office block that exemplifies your skills and experience in delivering upscale commercial office space to the open market.

This was the case when Calder Stewart brought in architects Mason and Wales to design a two-level office complex that would reflect a smart and decidedly progressive business style.

Sitting on the company's larger Blenheim Road Business Park development site, the new build makes prominent use of custom concrete panels, supplied by the company's precast concrete division. The design also employs the latest energy-saving technologies, a strategy that has worked for the company in past projects by attracting savvy budget-conscious tenants.

Calder Stewart undertook the construction itself, including the base fit-out, working with insurance leader, Aon New Zealand, who occupies the ground floor and has the naming rights to the building.

Aon House is the first major construction on Calder Stewart's Blenheim Road Business Park initiative and the latest addition to a growing port-folio of upscale commercial office building projects in the Christchurch area.

The project showcases the firm's extensive resources as both a builder and developer, which combined its reinforcing, precast concrete, structural steel, roofing and distribution divisions to deliver the completed project. Officially opened by prime minister John Key in August 2012, Aon House represents a firm commitment to the Christchurch rebuild process, now under way.
